KANE COUNTY COUGARS NAME DAVID HOLMBERG FIELD MANAGER FOR 2027 SEASON

GENEVA, Ill. – The Kane County Cougars have named David Holmberg their new field manager ahead of the 2027 season. Holmberg, who has served as the Cougars' pitching coach since 2024, takes over for George Tsamis as the club prepares for its inaugural season in the National Association of Professional Baseball (NAPB).

Holmberg has been a key member of the Cougars' coaching staff over the past three seasons, helping guide the club to back-to-back Miles Wolff Cup Championships in 2024 and 2025. During the 2024 postseason, the Cougars' pitching staff recorded a 0.83 ERA on its way to the championship.

“David Holmberg has been an integral part of our organization since joining the coaching staff in 2024,” said Cougars Vice President and General Manager Curtis Haug. “His leadership, knowledge of the game and commitment to our players make him a great fit for the role. We look forward to seeing him lead our team and continue building on the success of the Kane County Cougars.”

Prior to his coaching career, Holmberg was selected 71st overall by the Chicago White Sox in the 2009 MLB Draft. He went on to pitch in Major League Baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox.

“First of all I want to thank Sean Decker and REV Entertainment, Curtis Haug, and the entire Kane County Cougars organization for the opportunity to lead an amazing organization on the field in 2027,” said Holmberg. “I look forward to bringing another championship caliber team to the field in 2027 and giving the best fans in baseball another summer of excitement!”

Holmberg succeeds Tsamis, who compiled a 305-293 (.510) regular-season record during his time with Kane County. Tsamis led the Cougars to consecutive championships in 2024 and 2025 before departing the organization following the 2026 season.

“George has been an incredible part of the Kane County Cougars organization, and we are truly grateful for everything he has contributed during his time as our field manager," said Haug. “We are excited for him and his next chapter. We send George our best wishes for continued success.”

The Cougars are one of two clubs joining the NAPB for the 2027 season, alongside the Cleburne Railroaders. With Holmberg at the helm, Kane County will look to build on its recent championship success as it begins a new chapter in league history.

Kane County opens the 2027 season on Thursday, May 6, hosting the Schaumburg Boomers at Northwestern Medicine Field at 6:30 p.m.
